Template:Infobox country

Infobox country is WikiPartner's standard infobox for country articles.

Use it for sovereign states and other subjects that WikiPartner treats as countries. Cities, states, provinces, regions, districts, and other geographic places should normally use Template:Infobox place instead.

All parameters are optional. Add only information supported by reliable sources. Empty fields are automatically hidden.

Adding this template to a country article also generates Schema.org Country structured data automatically. Editors do not need to create JSON-LD manually.

Images

The country infobox supports three different national images:

flag_image — national flag
emblem_image — coat of arms, national seal, or other official national emblem
map_image — map showing the country's location or territory

Use file names only. Do not include File:... markup in these parameters.

The flag is used as the main infobox image when supplied.

Structured-data fields

Some fields have separate machine-readable values.

Use name for the commonly recognized English article name.
Use official_name for the country's formal official name when useful.
Use native_name for the country's name in its native language or writing system.
If several native names are important, separate them with semicolons.
Use flag_image for the national flag filename only.
Use emblem_image for an official coat of arms, seal, or equivalent national emblem.
Use map_image for a useful country map.
Use properly licensed images only.
Use capital for the official capital or capitals.
If a country has more than one capital function, explain the distinction rather than forcing all cities into a single unexplained value.
Use largest_city only when clearly established by the relevant population definition.
Use continent for the continent or continents containing the country.
Use region for a useful geographic subregion such as East Asia, Southern Africa, or Northern Europe when reliably sourced.
Use official_languages only for languages with official status.
Use recognized_languages for other nationally recognized languages when this distinction is relevant.
Separate multiple languages with semicolons.
Use demonym for the commonly accepted demonym or demonyms.
Use government for a concise description of the country's system of government.
Use head_of_state_title and head_of_government_title when the country's titles differ from the generic labels.
Government officeholders can change. Keep head_of_state and head_of_government current and supported by reliable sources.
Use legislature for the country's national legislative body when useful.
Use formation for a concise major formation, independence, establishment, or constitutional milestone. Complex national histories should remain in the article body.
Include units in the human-readable area field.
Use area_km2 as a number only, without km², commas, or other text.
Use population_as_of whenever population is supplied.
Use population_number as a plain numeric value for structured data.
Population values can differ by census, estimate, date, and territorial definition. Use a clearly dated reliable source.
Use population_density with the unit included.
GDP values should include a clear monetary unit and should always use the corresponding year field.
Use currency_code for the standard currency code when available.
Use timezone for the country's time zone or a concise description such as Multiple time zones.
Use driving_side as Left or Right when relevant.
Include the leading + in calling_code.
Include the leading period in a country-code top-level domain, for example .ca.
Use official ISO country codes in iso_alpha2, iso_alpha3, and iso_numeric.
Do not guess ISO codes.
Use coordinates for human-readable coordinates.
Use decimal latitude and longitude for structured data.
Longitude west of Greenwich should normally be negative.
Use website for an official national government or official country portal when suitable.
Leave unused fields out.
Do not add unsupported territorial, demographic, economic, linguistic, or constitutional claims.
Avoid presenting disputed or source-dependent figures as universally settled facts.

Structured data

WikiPartner represents country articles using Schema.org Country.

The country's common name is emitted as name, while formal and native names may be emitted as alternateName.

The national flag may be emitted as the country's image.

Decimal coordinates are represented using GeoCoordinates.

Official ISO codes are represented through Schema.org identifier using PropertyValue objects.

Country characteristics for which Schema.org does not provide a dedicated property, such as capital, population, area, language, currency, calling code, and internet TLD, may be represented using additionalProperty.

Political officeholders, GDP values, national motto, anthem, legislature, and other fields remain visible encyclopedic information unless there is a precise structured-data relationship that can be represented without guessing.
